Healthy Tricks to Boost Your Energy Level

In these fast paced modern times, we all need to have our energy up throughout the day just to keep up with our lives. However, we all know how hard it can be to maintain our energy and how bad those afternoon crashes can be. To be honest, our bodies are not supposed to perform at their best all the time, we all have our own biorhythms and body clocks we should learn to accommodate and work around since our bodies know what the best times for certain activities are. That said, we still have to get through the day at the office without dozing off and here are some suggestions on how to raise and maintain our energy levels.

1.      Get enough sleep
If there’s one thing that zaps our energy the most, it is the lack of sleep. You should get at least 6 to 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep, preferably between 10pm and 8am, since our bodies benefit the most from sleep we get between 10pm and 2am. Afternoon naps, as short as 20 minutes or as long as 2 hours are beneficial as well. Think in terms of restarting your system, just like the computer.

2.      Drink a lot of water
Everyone should drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. If you sweat more than once during the day, exercise, run or do sports, you need to drink much more to make up for the lost liquids. A well hydrated body will provide you with enough energy. Note that juice, coffee, tea or energy drinks don’t count, you have to drink plain water.

3.      Clean up your diet
If you expect your body to output good amounts of energy, you have to give it good input so that it can produce this energy. This means taking care of what you consume. Eliminate all artificial foods, sugars, salty and fatty foods and switch to a healthy balanced diet of veggies, fruits, nuts, seeds and fish. Try to eat organic and natural produce and go raw as much as you can. Juicing is a great way to make the most of all the nutrients.

4.      Replace coffee with green tea
Coffee is the first thing we resort to when our energy drops, but it actually only gives us a very short boost which is followed by a big energy crash. We drink more coffee but we only get jitters and insomnia yet we are still drained. A good way to get out of this vicious circle is to replace coffee with some good matcha tea from Australia which contains caffeine to boost our energy levels, but it also contains an additional ingredient called L-Theanine which allows for slower absorption of caffeine and provides a long lasting energy boost without the crash, the jitters and exhaustion.

5.      Move
Our bodies are not made for sitting and yet we spend most of our days sitting. It is natural that our metabolism will slow down and our energy level will drop because our body’s activity is minimal. To get out heart pumping more blood, to boost our circulation and provide our brain with more oxygen, we need to move as much as we can as often as we can. A 10 minute brisk walk outside can give us enough energy to run on for the next couple of hours. Longer walks have bigger effects. If you only have 5 minutes, you can play your favourite happy song and dance away to it, it will boost your energy like nothing else.

It is important to respect your body’s needs and give it best quality supplies including water, food, fresh air, sunlight, movement and sleep. It is not all that hard, you just have to learn how to work in partnership with your body rather than against it.
