FOOD JUNKIES: THE TRUTH ABOUT FOOD ADDICTION

I found this book to be very informative and motivational. Packed with informative information on how to prevent, treat, and overcome food addiction including a beautifully written epilogue empowering people with food addictions to take the next step to overcoming their addiction.

Dr. Vera Tarman’s book, “Food Junkies: The Truth About Food Addictiongave me the insights to understand food addition. The easy-to-follow guide is a clear, concise book providing the reader with detailed information about food addiction including advice and support to help someone overcome this disorder.

One important factor I learned from this book is that you need to understand the facts about addiction.  In order to overcome a disorder you need to learn about what it is and if you have it you then need to take the next step by accepting that you have an addiction to food.  Once those two steps are achieved then you can take the next step by learning how to overcome food addiction and go on by creating a healthy, happy and productive lifestyle.  Vera Tara provides all this information in her book.

It is critical for someone with food addiction or a family member who lives with him or her to read this book.

Even if you do not suffer from the disorder by learning about it you can support your loved one or friend who suffers from this disorder.  Food addiction is not something that goes away and never comes back.  It is an addiction just like drug and alcohol addiction.  You must cope with it and learn how to live with it for the rest of your life. Dr. Tarman shows you how in her book.

Understanding the complete issues of food addiction and learning the seriousness of the disorder can, “wake you up,” to take control.  The advice and guidance provided in this book, highlights what you can do to live with and overcome food addiction.

Dr. Vera Tara’s natural approach helped me realize that WE control our bodies. We can change our behavior by providing changing ourselves.  Change is hard, but if one is willing to change then anything is possible as Tarman explains in her book by using stories from others and her own battles with food addiction.

I enjoyed how the book provides you with the stepping-stones and techniques to prevent, treat, and overcome food addiction the natural way.  Dr. Vera Tarman the author, provides the reader with extraordinary tools and techniques that help you achieve all your goals both long and short-term goals.

As the book unfolds, you surprisingly begin to see how you can achieve your goals and overcome food addiction.

This book on food addiction and the advice and techniques that were provided were remarkable.  The book captured my interest and it has motivated me to not eat just to eat, but to seriously consider the food I am eating and reasons why I am eating those foods.

In addition, through reading this book I realize no matter what age you are you need to care for your body.   If you feel you have a problem with food then you need to learn about food addiction and what you can do to overcome it.  Addiction is a reality and if you are not careful, you could be a victim.

If you are one of the millions who have this condition, and are looking for an expert to guide you through all the positive steps you can take to overcome food addiction, this is the book for you. “This book will get anyone who struggles with food on the right track.”

Dr. Tarman’s book is an excellent book to help learn, diagnosis, prevent, treat and overcome food addiction.  It is packed with phenomenal advice. I was also honored to have the privilege to listen to Dr. Vera Tarman’s audible version of the book, which just came out and is available to purchase.

I found this book to be informative, motivating and was enjoyable to read. This book may be just what the doctor ordered for anyone who has a quest to learn about and overcome food addiction.  I recommend this book to others.

Using Hypnosis To Improve Sex and Relationships

Using Hypnosis To Improve Sex and Relationships. There is a growing trend of people using hypnosis and meditation as a way to improve their sex lives and relationships. Hypnosis for sex and relationships is a new approach to relationship therapy but extremely effective since sex is an emotional experience and the body literally reacts to what the mind is thinking on all levels.
Hypnotist Richard Barker has been working with couples for sex and relationship issues for quite some time with very interesting results. Richard Barker; a world renowned Hypnotist has been teaching couples and individuals, through the power of hypnosis, how to have better sex.
Barker said, “The power of your sex life is all in your mind. You can choose to have better or worse sex depending on your thought process. Everything first begins with a thought, and the thought then translates into an action. Every thought has a tangible response to it, usually demonstrated through emotions; actions and behavior.”

relationship sexBarker goes on to say “Clients that were feeling anxious or nervous in and out of the bedroom, have seen exciting results from the ability of hypnosis to influence and change the thought processes towards sex and relationships.”

Using Hypnosis To Improve Sex and Relationships

In this month’s issue of Women’s Health, Richard Barker is featured helping a couple with a six-month dry spell in the bedroom. The article details how this kind of hypnosis relationship work benefits couples facing a variety of issues. It can help with any anxiety problems that affect performance in the bedroom and during a relationship.

Barker said, “Some people come to see me individually because they feel anxiety about sex or just don’t feel good about themselves. If a woman, for example, has been told by a previous partner for years that she is ugly or just not worthy, it manifests itself into the subconscious, and can have a seriously negative impact on any new relationships.” Barker added, “Once the negative perceptions are removed and replaced with positive affirmations, she can be on the road to a greater relationship.”

Barker removes the previous negative baggage many clients carry with them, and help them to feel great about themselves and sexy again. Barker also believes in the affect couples can experience in joint sessions. It provides an extremely effective platform for helping couples improve their sex life together. Using Hypnosis To Improve Sex and Relationships

Tiffany Beverlin, CEO of DreamsRecycled, a website for divorcees, said “One of the more challenging things about moving on after divorce, is getting back in the saddle sexually. Divorcees express a lot of anguish over not only finding new people to date, but in being sexually active with them. A woman may not have sexually been with anyone but her husband, or maybe hasn’t had a new partner in years. I have seen how hypnosis helps people relax, feel confident in themselves and regain the courage to really let go and enjoy the ride.”

The Worst Foods For Your Face and Skin

Secretly Sugary Smoothies Americans consume an average of 22 teaspoons of sugar per day—roughly three times the recommended amount. Most come from hidden sources of sugar, and one of the biggest culprits is smoothies. But it’s not the natural sugar found in fruit that’s the problem. Store-bought bottled smoothie versions or made-to-order options from chains may include juice, frozen yogurt, or even sherbet in the recipes, all of which are packed with added sugar. If you're making them at home and using only good-for-you ingredients like unsweetened nut milk or yogurt, you're safe from the sugar bomb.

by JESSICA MIGALA

The old saying "you are what you eat" holds true for your health. And, it turns out, your skin. Fill up on junk like refined carbs, sugar, and trans fats, and well, your skin is going to look like it. "We’re actually learning that poor nutrition is just as bad for your skin as cigarette smoking," says Patricia Farris, MD, dermatologist and author of The Sugar Detox. A poor diet can cause inflammation, which triggers oxidative stress and in turn damages collagen and DNA, making you look older. Here are the top 10 food offenders to keep off your plate.

Rice Cakes

Once hailed by supermodels—and the women who wanted to be them—as the quintessential fat eraser, we now know that rice cakes cause your blood sugar to soar, which speeds up the formation of wrinkles. How? Your body metabolizes the simple carbs in the cakes the same way it does sugar—by converting them to glucose. Once they've been converted, they stick to wrinkle-fighting proteins like collagen and damage them, says Valori Treloar, MD, dermatologist and author of The Clear Skin Diet.

Candy

In our candy-heavy culture, adolescence is synonymous with pimples. "But in countries without diets heavy in processed sugar, kids go through puberty without acne," says Farris. Even if you're well (well) out of your teen years, this finding is a pretty good indication that the Snickers bar you stash in your desk drawer may be a culprit for your adult breakouts. And to add insult to injury, sugar also degrades collagen and elastin, the proteins that keeps skin soft, supple, and springy.

"Healthy" Cereal
Don’t let the virtuous packaging deceive you. While whole grains are generally lower on the glycemic index (a measure of how a food affects blood sugar) compared to white ones, many "healthy" cereals are often highly refined and full of added sugar. And that means they can lead to wrinkle-inducing glucose spikes, says Treloar.

Milk

It may do a body good, but your skin? Not so much. Especially the skim variety. "Milk can be full of growth hormones and growth factors that remain biologically active even after pasteurization," explains Treloar. "Studies show that they appear to make their way into our blood stream where they can affect insulin, cause inflammation, and ramp up oil production." The result: breakout city. Population: you. Organic milk may be a good alternative, as it contains only regularly-occurring hormones instead of added ones that are found in non-organic options, though more research is needed to say for certain whether organic options won’t negatively impact skin.

Chips

Teeming with refined carbs, these noshes increase the inflammation that triggers DNA- and collagen-damaging oxidative stress. Over time, you’ll notice more fine lines, wrinkles, and aged appearance, says Farris. Plus, according to a 2014 study in The Journal of Drugs in Dermatology, refined carbs are the main culprit in the rise of adult acne cases.

Secretly Sugary Smoothies

Americans consume an average of 22 teaspoons of sugar per day—roughly three times the recommended amount.

Agave

Billed as a better-for-you sugar alternative, this sweet syrup made from several species of agave plants often packs more fructose than even high fructose corn syrup. "Fructose is metabolized by your liver where it not only turns into fat, but is much more efficient at breaking down collagen than regular table sugar," says Farris. Meaning that seemingly healthy switch you made by swapping sugar for agave may make crow’s feet more noticeable.

Juices and Sodas

You know that most juices are just sugar delivery vehicles, with many packing as much as a soda. But you may not know that it’s their lack of fiber that makes them such bad news for your skin. Fiber is essential for preventing blood sugar swings that prematurely age skin. Without it, wrinkles will follow.

Fast Food

Choosing drive thru lanes, with their high GI and saturated fat-laden menus, can put you at risk for blemishes. Compared to a low-GI, high protein diet, Western diets (traditionally high GI and heavy on the fast food) were linked to more acne lesions, suggests a study in the Journal of The American Academy of Dermatology.

Margarine

While fats are essential for maintaining supple skin, they’re not all created equal. And some, like the trans fats often found in margarine, may zap hydration. A study in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition found that higher intake of margarine was associated with increased skin wrinkling.

How to Keep your Children’s Feet Healthy

We always think that foot problems are the preserve of the older generations, and while this is mainly true, it’s habits laid down in childhood that can contribute towards painful feet in later life.

Good foot care starts early, even before your children can walk! It’s not just important to prevent problems in middle and old age, either, as we have all experienced that walk – the one ruined by a blister or a broken nail on the little darling’s pinky… Yes, good foot health is vital in the early years, when children are learning to run and play – painful feet can make your child reluctant to join in sports or other games, which in turn affects their general health.

Here’s how you can give your child the best start in life from the ground up.
Look at your child’s feet at least once a week – maybe when you clip their toenails. Look for any swelling, discolouration, unusual toe positions, verrucae or fungal infections. If you see anything unusual, take advice from your GP. If your child is prone to fungal or nail problems, head somewhere like the Northwich Foot Clinic for maintenance (on the advice of your doctor).

Make sure your child has properly-fitting shoes. There should be at least 1cm between the toes and the end of the shoe and you should check every two weeks that they still fit. Children’s feet can have growth spurts and you may be surprised!

Start good hygiene early! Children like to be barefoot and also to try on other people’s shoes, so while you can’t always prevent this, you can watch out for the inevitable fungal and viral results! Washing and drying the feet every day is a good habit to get into, as is clipping the toenails straight across and not picking at them instead! As your children get older, encourage them to look after their feet by themselves.

While it’s great to be sporty, some children over-do it, or play several different sports using the same shoes, which may not be right for all disciplines. Give your child a couple of rest days each week and make sure their sports shoes are refitted each academic year or season. Young bones can develop stress fractures very easily if they’re overworked or crammed into too-small sports shoes.

Watch your child closely when they walk, run and jump. Are there any changes to their gait or posture that can’t be explained easily? Is he or she suddenly reluctant to play a particular game or go on walks that they used to love? If they suddenly start falling over or tripping up more often, or if they can’t keep up with you or their friends when out and about, there may be an underlying problem with the foot or the ankle. Most often, these problems are easily dealt with, so it’s wise to have them looked at before they have “knock-on” effects on the knees and hips.

Most of all, children shouldn’t have painful feet! If your child is complaining of pain or stiffness in their feet or ankles, see your GP.

Each Moment We’re Alive: A Musical and Photographic Story is filled with fabulous insight on how to cope, overcome and turn your life.

Alt and Baer’s book and CD, touched my heart in more ways than one.  It gave me the insights to understand that everything in life happens for a reason.  Everyone in life goes through tragic events in some point of their life and there are some people who unfortunately are faced with obstacles every day of their lives.  The trick is how do we cope with these obstacles?  Do we let the negative things that happen to us in life get the best of us and slowly destroy us making us feel angry, saddened and depressed? Or do we try to look at the situation pulling out the positive aspects from the situation and then asking ourselves, “What did I learn from this situation?  How did it make me a stronger or better person?

Alt and Baer’s taught me through their wisdom of words, inspirational pictures and amazing music how to accept the negative things that occur in our lives and use them to empower us to make positive changes in our lives that will help us live in the moment and appreciate the life we live and the air we breathe.  Alt and Baer’s heartwarming book and CD makes you look at life differently in a positive manner.

I never experienced breast cancer however; I gained a lot of insight by reading their book of inspirational quotes, gazing at the beautiful photographs provided throughout the book and listening to the lovely songs in the CD that make you look at life in a whole new outlook.

In the introduction, Debra opens up and lets you into her world sharing how she met Monica and the huge positive impact Monica left in her and her daughter’s life.

In addition, through reading this book I realize no matter what disease or disorder you suffer from in life there is always a positive lessen to be learned that will strengthen us and help us grow and further our horizons.  This book and CD helped me realize that everyone in this world has something, but with support, love, guidance and reassurance anything is possible.  The power of healing (mentally, physically or spiritually) is always an option if you are open it.  Alt and Baer’s book can show you how to cope, overcome and experience power of healing in this wonderful book.

Alt and Baer’s book and CD are excellent.  I highly recommend it to others.  It will make you smile, it may make you cry, but in the end you’ll see life in a different shade of light.  You’ll be glad you read it and you’ll love the inspiring CD that is included inside the book. Music heals all wounds. You can't touch it or see it, but somehow just hearing it can change your entire world.

The Book and CD giftset is $18. A portion of sales of the book/CD is donated to cancer
research and support.

FIVE COMMANDMENTS OF HEALTHY RELAXED HAIR

1. Minimize heat styling
It would be much better if you choose hairstyles, which doesn’t involve heat. It’s OK to use heated tools from time to time, but frequent exposure to heat will eventually lead to thermal damage. Give preference to protective styles such as updos and braids for keeping your locks healthy.

2. Trust hair professionals
It’s essential to find a reliable hairstylist for keeping your locks happy. Unfortunately, there are too many women now, whose hair became damaged in the result of home experiments. Don’t put your hair at risk and let the professionals at NYC Hair Salon help you!

3. Condition regularly
There is nothing more important than regular conditioning for healthy relaxed hair. Since relaxers distort the natural balance of your hair oils, it’s essential to replenish moisture deposits of your locks. We recommend using a regular conditioner each time you shampoo and deep conditioner once or twice a week.

4. Stave off overprocessing
It’s much easier to overprocess your hair than it seems, but the consequences are truly terrible. DIY treatments are much cheaper and more dangerous at the same time. You have to be really careful and avoid leaving the chemicals for too long! The beauty of your hair is at stake.

5. Eliminate damaged ends
The truth is that ends of our hair become damaged very quickly, and this damage can travel upwards undermining the health of your hair; therefore, it’s extremely important to trim your ends and eliminate signs of damage. It’s totally up to you how often you should trim. We recommend making an appointment at http://lerevehairsalon.com/ as soon as you spot split ends.

NuriNerve: Breakthrough for Neuropathy

There are now 30 million people with diabetes in the US. There are furthermore 80 million people with prediabetes and metabolic syndrome. About half the people with diabetes develop nerve damage or neuropathy which is the most common complication of diabetes. Prediabetes does not escape its attention and about 1 in 6 people will also suffer neuropathy. Half the people will have pain and the remainder will have loss of strength, impaired vibration and touch or temperature sensation and reflexes and are prone to foot ulcers, amputations and falls and fractures with traumatic brain injury. More recently it has become apparent that impairment of touch, pressure perception and loss of heart rate variability (HRV) are strong predictors of heart attack and death. Unfortunately little has been shown to prevent or reverse neuropathy and relieve the afflicted individuals of their suffering and discomfort.

There is however some hope on the horizon. Recent studies have demonstrated in animals and man that certain nutraceuticals may have beneficial effects on the different components of neuropathy. Alpha lipoic acid (ALA) is a powerful antioxidant which the Toronto Neuropathy convention concluded was “the only agent that has shown the capability of reversing certain components of neuropathy”. In a post-hoc analysis of the NATHAN 1 trial, a 4-year randomized study including 460 diabetic patients with mild-to-moderate polyneuropathy treatment with using ALA 600 mg daily or placebo. Amongst others, efficacy measures were the Neuropathy Impairment Score of the lower limbs (NIS-LL) and HRV during deep breathing. The striking results showed improvement and prevention of progression of NIS-LL with ALA vs. placebo after 4 years. More importantly the improvement was predicted by higher age, lower BMI, male sex, normal blood pressure, history of cardiovascular disease (CVD), and insulin treatment, longer duration of diabetes and neuropathy, and higher neuropathy stage. In other words the worse you are the better you responded to treatment with ALA. There is still hope for the wicked. Of further interest it is almost a sine qua non to treat people with diabetes with ACE inhibitors for hypertension and renal disease and the combination with ALA showed a better outcome in HRV. Better outcome was predicted by higher burden due to CVD, diabetes, and neuropathy, while improvement in cardiac autonomic function was predicted by ACE inhibitor treatment.

In small studies in animals and man Vitamin B1 (Benfotiamine) has been shown to improve disturbances of sensory perception, Vitamin B12 to improve gait and balance and gamma linolenic acid derived from borage oil to enhance thermal perception. There also is accruing evidence that vitamin D may have salutary effects on nerve function. Patients who have taken Nutrinerve which is a compound comprising these ingredients have readily testified to the relief of pain and others to the improvement of sensory perception and reduction in instability and the propensity to falling. Of interest patients have spoken about the improvement in their skin, hair and brittleness of their nails. Others who have been on the product and stopped or changed the brand volunteer a recurrence of their symptoms! It seems that there is light at the end of this tunnel of gloom that has surrounded diabetic neuropathy all these years.

This special formula was developed by Dr. Aaron Vinik, MD, the Director of Research and Neuroendcrine Unit at Eastern Virginia Medical School.
