Top 6 Herbs for Healthy Hair

Ever dreamed of visiting the best barber in NYC but was unable due to being embarrassed by the state of your mane? Try out some of these herbs to curb this problem!

1. Comfrey
This particular herb conditions and moisturizes limp and lifeless hair. Especially beneficial for dry hair, comfrey rinses nourish the shafts of the hairs as well as reduce the dryness of the scalp. Pour some on your mane if you want to soften it and boost its shine!

2. Elder Flowers
Just like comfrey, elder flowers help to soothe dry scalp and soften the damaged hair by moisturizing them without making them oily.

3. Horsetail
Often used as a hair loss remedy, horsetail soothes irritation while hydrating your dry and thirsty hair. One of its main components – silica – strengthens weak shafts and gives them additional luster.

4. Burdock
The fatty acids contained in this plant help to strengthen the hair, promote its growth and general health. Burdock rinses can reduce the brittleness of your mane as well as add some shine and body to it. The phytosterols in this herb soothe the irritated skin of the scalp and treat dandruff.

5. Calendula
Calendula rinses enrich your hair with minerals and condition the mane. This herb nourishes and conditions the hair without making it oily. It makes it an effective treatment for all hair types. Infuse several cups of calendula brew and soak your hair. It also protects your scalp from bacterial growth and treats different fungi.

6. Marsh Mallow
We suggest looking for an organic hair product containing marsh mallow or even using a simple brew instead of your generic hair conditioner. It softens, moisturizes, and nourishes hair shafts due to the high protein content.

Use these remedies to improve the state of your locks!

Neeva KedemAbout Neeva Kedem: Couple of years ago my life took a nice turn when I became vegan. It happened after my 40th birthday; I kind of realized that my health and energy are not as they used to be, and that change is needed. After reading lots of researches and studies, I understood that eating healthier food that is based on plants and natural ingredients will be the best for me, and so I did. It didn’t happen overnight; first, I gave up red meat. Then chicken, which was very hard for me. And only about a year later – cheese and eggs. Today I can say that being vegan improved my health and energy levels, and that I love being vegan!

19 Natural Remedies for Varicose Veins

by LORI BREGMAN

Soothe away varicose veins with these tricks you can try at home.

Varicose veins are bluish, bulging veins that appear on your legs at the surface of your skin. While varicose veins are generally not painful, they can be uncomfortable. The exact cause of varicose veins is not known, but a genetic tendency toward weak vein valves plays a role.

Hormones also play a big part in varicose veins, so pregnant women are very prone to developing them. During pregnancy, the increased blood volume you're circulating for yourself and your baby can make veins bulge. Sitting with a full uterus on the top of your thighs also prevents blood from returning to the heart effectively. Many varicose veins that pop up during pregnancy deflate in three months, although new pregnancies can bring them on again—sometimes to stay.

The bad news is that varicose veins are in some cases unavoidable. The good news? Many times, there are ways to naturally prevent and soothe them. Here are a few suggestions:

• Get plenty of exercise to get your blood circulating.

• Elevate your legs on pillows daily for 10 minutes or more.

• Avoid excess weight gain.

• Dry-brush your legs daily to improve circulation. (This can prevent varicose veins from forming.) Use a natural-bristle brush with a long handle that allows you to reach all parts of your body. Gently brush your legs from the ankles up in a circular motion. Do this before you shower, so you can wash off any dead skin you brush off. Follow with moisturizer or body oil to achieve super-soft and glowing skin! However, don't brush areas with existing varicose veins because you may irritate them.

• Take sociable garlic and vitamin E capsules to improve circulation and vitamin C and B-complex vitamins to strengthen your blood vessels.

• Massage your legs with upward strokes, flushing your blood up to your heart. Use a massage oil made with 3 drops of lavender oil and 1 drop of peppermint oil in a coconut oil base (use unscented coconut oil), or put only the essential oils into a small spray bottle filled with water and spray directly on your legs.

• St. John's wort oil helps with inflammation of veins. You can buy or make the oil yourself with just a couple of ingredients. Place a few handfuls of the plant (I use the dried flowers) in a mason jar. Fill the rest of the jar with cold-pressed, organic olive oil (leave a little space at the top). Store in a cool, dry place, and it will stay fresh for a month.

• Avoid sitting for too long, especially with your legs crossed.

• Wear loose clothing.

• Try acupuncture or reflexology treatments to get your circulation moving and to move any stagnant energy.

• After a bath, apply castor oil directly onto the veins. Massage using upward strokes from your feet straight up your legs.

• Avoid standing for prolonged periods of time.

• Apply a cool compress soaked in witch hazel on your legs. Add a few drops of rosemary oil to stimulate circulation.

• Flex your feet up and down and circle your ankles to the left and to the right twice a day.

To help varicose veins, make sure you're getting enough of the following:

• Calcium-rich foods, since varicose veins are aggravated by a calcium deficiency

• Pineapple, to reduce swelling and inflammation

• Berries such as raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and cherries, as they contain a pigment that strengthens the walls of the veins

• Foods high in fiber

• Plenty of water, to keep your bowels moving.
